This site exists because UK care organisations and families need honest, plain-English guidance on a topic dominated by vendor marketing and speculative media coverage. We distinguish clearly between full humanoid robots (an emerging technology not yet deployed in UK care at any significant scale) and the companion and assistive robots that are active in UK pilots today. Our purpose is to help you understand what is real, what is available, and how to evaluate it responsibly.
What is actually deployed today
There is an important distinction that most media coverage misses. Full ambulatory humanoid robots are an emerging and still-developing technology. They are not deployed in UK care homes at scale. The robots active in UK care settings today are smaller companion and communication devices.
Devices such as the GenieConnect units operated by Service Robotics have been used in UK care homes to support residents with video calls to family members, medication reminders, and social interaction. Cera has reported piloting AI-assisted communication droids with residents in London, with similar functions. These are genuine, documented deployments, and they represent the real current state of robot technology in UK care settings.
These devices do not replace the physical care provided by human staff. They do not administer medication, provide personal care, or substitute for the judgment and attention of a trained carer. Understanding this distinction is the starting point for any serious evaluation of the technology.
